About I-Shou University

I-Shou University (ISU), formerly Kaohsiung Polytechnic Institute (KPI), was founded in 1986. I-Shou University was instituted by Mr. Lin I-Shou, Chairman of the I-Lien Group. In 1990, Mr. Lin invited Professor Shen-Li Fu to become University President. Over the past decade, ISU has expanded from only seven departments to five colleges, twenty-eight departments, and three graduate schools. The student body has also grown from 300 in 1990 to over 14,000 in 2003. As a comprehensive university, not only do we want our graduates to become professionals and men and women of integrity, but we also want to create knowledge that contributes to our society.

At ISU, 85% of the faculty hold doctoral degrees, topping other universities and colleges in Southern Taiwan. Before applying for a faculty position, a major consideration will be the applicantˇ¦s area of research interest and practical experience. As far as curriculum development and contents of instruction, ISU holds that theory and practice are both of the same importance. Classroom instruction and laboratory work are weighted equally.
