Radation Technology
Introduction
The Department of Medical Radiation
Technology was instituted in 1992. It is planned to have 50 freshmen
enrolled in one class each year. Due to the rapid development of the
medical sciences, radiological diagnosis and therapy become more and
more important in clinical applications. The purpose to establish this
department is to train the students to become radiological technologists
and researchers, who are both skilled in theory and in practice, in the
fields of radiological technology. It is expected to improve the quality
of medical care after the well-trained students join in the related
clinical service and research. The main directions of the development of
the department will be focused on radiological diagnostic techniques,
radiation therapy techniques, nuclear medicine operation techniques,
medical physics, medical imaging analysis and clinical radiological
techniques and practicing.
Teaching and Research
The teaching of medical radiation
technology is a diversified discipline education. The students will
learn the professional skills in radiological sciences together with
clinical practicing. Hence the arrangement of the courses is critical
important. Based on the diversity and variety, a complete education will
combine both basic sciences and clinical practicing. The design of the
core courses is categorized into five fields, including basic sciences,
basic medical sciences, radiological and imaging sciences, clinical
therapy techniques and clinical practicing. The courses will integrate
basic electronics, medical physics and radiological techniques together
with clinical diagnosis, radiological therapy, nuclear medicine,
ultrasound and medical imaging. The department also offers some courses
related to the leading-edge technologies, such as MRI, CT, ¡K, etc. In
order to train the students to do research and develop the capability of
problems solving, courses of research on special topic and paper writing
are required. The students will learn clinical applications through
their clinical practicing in hospitals. Students are trained through
various fields and aided for their career planning. In order to train
the students to become excellent radiological technologists, the
department plan to recruit at least 10 faculty members with doctoral
degrees, including full professors, associate professors and assistant
professors. Radiologists in well-known hospitals are also recruited to
teach related clinical courses to promote the teaching quality in
clinical applications. The recruitment of the faculty members in our
department will focus on the fields of radiological diagnostic
techniques, radiological therapy techniques, nuclear medicine operation
techniques, medical physics and medical imaging analysis.
Curriculum and Facility
In additions to teaching, research is
also required for the faculty members of the department. In order to
promote the research quality, eight multi-functional laboratories will
be established for the purpose of teaching and research in the near
future. They will be radiological diagnostic laboratory, radiological
therapy laboratory, nuclear medicine operation laboratory, medical
physics laboratory, medical imaging analysis laboratory and radiation
measurement laboratory. Related instruments and facilities will be
purchased year by year. Besides, advanced facilities in practicing
hospitals are also available for the students and faculty members. It is
hoped to create an excellent environment for teaching and research to
let the students become well-trained radiological technologists.
Career Development
After completing the professional
education in medical radiation technology, the students will take the
national examination and get the license of radiological technologist
after graduate. They will work for the related clinical service in
hospital or other related fields. They can also upgrade themselves to
become higher level researchers by entering the graduate school of
radiological sciences or other related programs. It will stimulate the
development of medical radiation technology and increase the quality of
medical care in our country.
