Physical Therapy
Introduction
The Department of Physical Therapy was initiated by
Professor Wei-min Huang, head of the Department of Healthcare
Administrative in the year of 2000. He invited two professors, Wen-shen
Liao and Nan-ying Yu to join the preparation team. After two years of
planning , the Department of Physical Therapy was established in 2002,
enrolling 50 undergraduate students.
Teaching and Research
The faculty of the department consists of five assistant
professors, and more other faculty members will be recruited. The
academic program includes the major fields of physical therapy, such as
orthopedic physical therapy, neurological physical therapy, pediatric
physical therapy, cardiovascular and respiratory physical therapy. The
research projects are aimed at electrotherapy, motion analysis and
biomechanics for the time being. Special interest research team will be
formed with biomedical engineer and rehabilitation to develop advanced
products for clinical use.
Curriculum and Facility
As a newly established department, we have the
opportunity to develop a curriculum that incorporates the most recent
trends in this field. The curriculum of the department includes:
introduction to physical therapy, medical electronics,
kinesiology, manipulation, biomechanics, physical agents for physical
therapy, orthopedic physical therapy, neurological physical therapy,
pediatric physical therapy, cardiovascular and respiratory physical
therapy, prosthetics and orthotics, physical
therapy administration and management, introduction to medical
management, seminar and clinical practice.
Career Development
The department follows the declarations of principle
from WCPT (World Confederation for Physical Therapy) that the education
of physical therapy is a life-long learning process. The job market for
