Nursing
Introduction
Our Department was established in
1999. We are recruiting both male and female students through various
routes, such as University Entrance Examination and nomination from high
schools. We offer a four-year program. Graduates will be awarded
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BS in Nursing).
Teaching and Research
Teaching:
Our program is comprehensive and
future oriented to follow the trend of health and nursing care
closely. The total credits for graduation are 144 including 22
requirements (common), 98 requirements (basic medicine and
professional nursing), 14 professional electives, and 10 general
education credits (please see Table 1 for our curriculum).
Each regular size class will have 55 students. Only one class will be
admitted each year. Under certain circumstances, students will be
divided into smaller groups for better learning results. Our education
goals are: a.Provide a holistic nursing education program, which is
aimed to equip our graduates to be able to provide holistic care (also
called whole person total care) toward their clients from physical,
psychological, social, and spiritual approaches.
b.Educate student to have professional knowledge of nursing, and
develop philosophy of nursing for individuals, families, groups, and
communities.
c.Offer healthcare/nursing management and policy courses for students
to obtain ability in management and leadership as well as getting
familiar with the social environment.
Research:
Our goal is to get more research
funding from the National Science Council and Health Care Council in
the Executive Yuan .Our research focuses can be categorized into the
following areas: holistic care, nursing informatics, community health,
nursing delivery and systems, preventive medicine, and infection and
immunity.
Faculty:
We have 10 well-prepared full-time
faculty members (please see Table 2 for more detail information):seven
of them are nursing specialists who are registered nurses; the other
three hold Ph.D. degrees in the areas of basic medicine, pharmacy, and
immunology. More than 20 part-time faculty members from the other
departments
and nearby medical centers are participating in our teaching
activities. As a new program, we have really strong faculty. For
better teaching quality, more doctorate-prepared nursing faculty
members, like in the areas of pediatric, psychiatric and obstetric and
gynecologic nursing, will be hired in the near future. At this moment,
the specialties of our nursing faculties cover the fields of
medical-surgical nursing, community nursing, nursing administration,
nursing education, home health care, preventive medicine, and basic
medicine.
Future Development Directions
1.Provide excellent learning atmosphere for quality
learning, including well-equipped laboratories, and medical center units
for clinical classes.
2.Provide nursing knowledge and services for our communities to make
good use of the community's resources.
3.Build close collaborative relationship with healthcare institutions
and universities
in southern Taiwan.
4.Establish academic relationship in the areas of research and teaching
with foreign universities for continuous enhancement of our knowledge in
nursing
Career Development
Graduates from the nursing department
would get enough professional nursing skills and medical knowledge.
After obtaining licenses, they could get employed as clinical nurses in
hospitals, community health nurses, school or factory nurses, nurse
teachers. They would be capable to manage a nursing home or nursing
postpartum institution after some clinical experiences. Certainly, they
can choose to pursue higher degrees in the related fields, such as
nursing or life science in domestic or foreign graduate schools.
