Materials Science and Engineering

The department was established in 1994 and the master graduate program was initiated two years later in 1996. With the rapid growth of the university, the continuing education master program was added in 1997 and recently, the Ph. D. program was established for those to further the education in the field of materials science and engineering. Currently, the department is staffed with 18 full time faculty members; all has a Ph. D. degree.

With the diversified expertise of the faculty members and the domestic manufacturing and business structures, the department has been able to categorize the research activities in six major fields: electronics, electro optics, metals, ceramics, polymer, and, nanomaterials to meet the demands. The student can take the advantages to select the area of interest to pursue the graduate research works or special topic report credential to apply for admission to graduate schools. The department emphases the teaching doctrine of applying learned skills in real life to provide the student a balanced education.

By planning, the department has been expanding by installing more instruments and equipments plus the recruiting of new faculty member to meet the teaching and research requirements of ever changing new domains in the science of materials. The cooperation with both private and government institutes by joint efforts and projects have been successfully implemented and executed in years. This mode of operation providing on time inputs from outside as well as facilitating the studentˇ¦s future career planning.

The department is well equipped to support both the teaching and research facilities. Currently there are sixteen laboratories in pertinent disciplines including: precision analysis, electro ceramics, electronic package, functional ceramics, thin film, melting and refining, metal fabrication, heat treatment, ceramic processing, sample preparation, metallography, electronic microscope, physical property measurement, thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction.

Good materials scientist and engineers are in demand in various disciplines: electronic, electrical, mechanical, chemical, metallurgical, semiconductor, biological and medical engineering. We are always looking for few good people, so come and joint us. The department can provide candidate opportunities to receive degrees and a good career starting point in the fields of materials science and engineering.
