Healthcare Administration

Introduction

    Department of Healthcare Administration at I-Shou University is accredited by the Ministry of Education in1998, and starts to enroll students in September 1998. In order to provide DHAstudents with the best and perfect learning environment, both in healthcare theory and practical training, the Department will augment its faculty members by recruiting distinguished experts with doctoral degrees in healthcare administration and management related fields.
    The foci of DHA's future development are as follows: (1) Clinical systems - the Board of Regents plans to establish a modern teaching hospital with more than 1000 beds near Yuan-Tsau Hsiang, Kaohsiung County; (2) Healthcare service delivery systems - to establish intensive and cooperative relationships with other eminent teaching hospitals and healthcare organizations in the Kaohsiung area, as well as other departments in the School of Management at I-Shou University; and (3) Healthcare Information systems - Computing Center and other departments related to Science of information technology will support the need of the above systems in terms of software and hardware.


Teaching and Research

    In order to invigorate the spirit of pursuing for excelleney among students, DHA faculty strongly encourage them to participate in research projects, using vacations and/or leisure time. Through this process, students will be able to learn the accurate concept and spirit of scientific research, and hopefully it will become the cornerstone of their future career .In order to comply with practical training protocol. The Department has been aggressively recruiting preeminent teaching hospitals and healthcare organizations in southern Taiwan as practical training sites for DHA students. In addition to the full support and cooperation of Yuan's General Hospital (a regional hospital), several teaching hospitals, such as Veterans' General Hospital (VGH) in Kaohsiung, Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital (KMUH) and Navy General Hospital (NGH) at Tsoying, the Department will keep on recruiting appropriate practical training sites through various channels. in terms of healthcare service research, DHA faculty will actively solicit and apply for funding from health-related institutes, such as National Science Council (NSC), National Health Research Institute (NHRI), Department of Health (DOH), and the Bureau of National Health Insurance (BNHI). The research projects would not only enhance the quality of teaching and learning, but also benefit government health policy making at varing levels via the significant findings and recommendations.


Curriculum and Facilities

    The Department will continuously purchase computer modalities such as PCs, notebook PCs, LCD projectors and cameras for use in teaching and in seminar discussion. In addition, the School of Management will support the establishment of a computer classroom specifically for DHA student use; thus they will be able to constantly improve computer skills for the need of job market after graduation.
    In terms of library volume, the Department will also purchase textbooks and prescribe professional journals related to healthcare services on a continuous basis. In addition to the ore courses, the Department will offer a variety of elective courses that discuss the most recent trends in health care.


Career Development

    In order to meet the nation's need of modernization, our goal is to equip DHA students with practical skills and decent knowledge in healthcare administration, so that they will be able to contribute to Taiwan's healthcare service systems. Furthermore, they will become one of the significant segments of our nation's development and make contributions to the people.
