Finance
Introduction
The department of financial management began student
enrollment in 1992. In order to meet the educational policy and
developmental needs of Taiwan, the department changed its name to
department of finance. Then, in 1995 the night program started.
Currently there are more than 860 students in this department.
In order to get theory into practice, the department has built a
computer lab to facilitate the teaching and research of financial
investment. A new lab for financial product information system is under
construction. Combined with academic
program, these facilities can prepare our students for a future career
in finance.
Teaching and Research
(1)Teaching: our course offering is comprehensive and
future oriented to follow the economic development closely. The whole
curriculum is divided into basics, core battery courses, and application
modules. Moreover, English courses are offered each of the four years.
(2)Research: our goal is to get more research funding from the National
Science Council the Ministry of Education's and other government
institutes. We try to cooperate with the financial and banking
businesses for applied research and managerial consultation. Our faculty
members have participated in various conferences and published journal
articles both domestically and internationally to increase our academic
visibility. Some of our research projects are funded by ISU if they have
been funded by the National Science Council.
Curriculum and Facility
(1) Curricular Features: Curriculum development and
course contents are based on the principle of ¡§balance between theory
and practice¡¨ and¡§ equal emphasis on instruction and experiment¡¨ Thus,
our students can become well equipped for the business world. To build
their knowledge base, our courses are geared toward financial management
and focused on investment, financing, and banking system.
The purpose is to integrate the general and the specialized knowledge.
Currently, Taiwan is on the way to becoming an Asia-Pacific Regional
Operation Center with the liberalization of international finance and
the strengthening of capital market. Moreover, the wave of domestic
business upgrade has also called for talented employees in finance. The
department has tried its best to produce the talent required by the job
market with special training in financial statement analysis, investment
evaluation, investment portfolio analysis, and international financial
management.
(2)Facility: The department has a finance research lab used by faculty
and students. The main equipments include the following: 25 dual-monitor
PC 30 Pentium PCs, 8 laser printers, 4 color ink-jet printers, 10
professional financial calculators, and 2 air
conditioners. We also have lots of professional software products, such
as Primavera Project Planner, Windows, Office, Statistica, SPSS,
Intuition Plus, and Value-at -risk,
TSB,E-views. Students and faculty are very welcome to come in and use
them.
Career Development
(1) Higher Education: Students are encouraged to
continue their graduate study in finance, accounting, business
administration, and banking. ISU has the graduate school of management
science that provide advanced education opportunity.
(2) Job Market: Choices are made depending on personal specialty and
interests.
(3) Governmental Institutions¡GWork areas such as finance, accounting,
auditing, taxation and banking are common after passing different
examinations to qualify for job positions in the government.
(4) Private Sectors¡GJobs in corporate finance, accounting, international
trade, auditing management, and investment analysis are popular choices.
The corresponding job titles are accountant, securities broker, bank
teller, futures dealer, financial analyst, and so on.
(5) To practice as certified accountant, securities agent, futures
dealer, and so on after acquiring the required certification.
