Civil and Ecological EngineeringOur department , established first as Civil Engineering in 1990, provides all the traditional training diciplines, namely, structural, geotechnical, transportation, environmental, hydraulic, material, surveying, construction and the newly incorporated ecological engineering. The name change to Civil and Ecological Engineering is the result of increasing awareness of abrupt environmental changes, depleting resources and worsening ecological balance as well as the accompanying demand from the public on ecology-conscious and sustainable development conscious civil engineering designs. Active researches are being conducted
in all disciplines by the 19 faculty members–£18 with a doctorate degree
and many with extensive industrial experiences. The department, with
approximately 400 students, currently offers BS and MS degrees. Our
training emphasizes (a) problem-solving ability, (b) professionalism,
(c) communication skill, (d) team-work spirit, (e) engineering ethics
and (f) life-long learning. Most importantly, ecology-awareness is
injected in all courses. |
