Accounting
Introduction
Accounting is an inseparable part of
everyday life. From personal financial management to the growth of
private and governmental enterprises, and to the whole nation's economic
development, we depend on a well-established accounting and auditing
systems. The Department of Accounting was established in 1993. Three
years later, the Department further expanded and offered two-year
program for on-job students. In 1997, the Department further offered
Bachelor degree program for continuing education.
The main goal of the Department is to provide the teaching
and learning environment that is conducive to the cultivation of
outstanding accounting professionals. Considering Kaohsiung's future
development, an emphasis has been
placed on educating students to become accounting elites, especially
suited for Kaohsiung's needs in import and export business.
The educational objectives set for this Department are as
follows:
(1) In alignment with our nation's long-term economic policies and
development, educate our students to be accounting professionals with
management skills.
(2) Educate our students to have sound personality and high moral
standards, and to become law-abiding citizens and productive members of
our society.
Teaching and Research
For the fulfillment of our
Department's long-term goal and continuing development, full-time
faculty members are carefully selected and hired. To further strengthen
our program, people who have practical experiences in accounting and
other related areas are recruited as part-time faculty members. As tax
has become an important and inseparable component of accounting, experts
specializing in business law have been recruited to be part of our
faculty members as well. Though both theoretical bases and practical
capabilities in the field of accounting and other related areas, for
instance finance and management information science, are emphasized
during program development, students' sound personality growth and
development are specially added as a vital component of our program. One
important educational goal of the Department is to provide a learning
environment which is conducive to students' cognitive, affective, and
social development. By carefully designing and planning, we hope to
offer a four-year curriculum program that will help students advance
their knowledge.
Curriculum and Facility
To further strengthen students'
English competency, our program provides an array of English-related
courses in listening, speaking and writing. A special writing and
listening assessment procedure has been considered, which will require
all students to pass the exam in order to get their degrees. In summary,
our program strives to train students to become skillful and
morally-sound accountants, who can actively apply what they have learned
in school and smoothly transfer their knowledge and skills into the real
world. Curriculum and related measures have been
carefully designed, implemented, and evaluated. Altogether the program
intends to assist students in consolidating their learning and becoming
competitive members in the working industry.
Career Development
In addition to a wide array of courses in the areas of
accounting, the Department particularly emphasizes computer technology
and laws; therefore, the application of the knowledge is offered in our
carefully-planned curriculum program.Up to now, our Department has the
following facilities and equipment:
